Key Responsibilities
The HR Manager (HRM) will play a key role in the APAC HR team, reporting to the HR Director, APAC to provide a generalist role, incorporating employee relations, overseeing payroll coordination, recruitment and learning and development. Working in a small team of four, this role will be responsible for a range of HR accountabilities for WGSN overseeing the daily operations across the region.
The APAC region with its Head Office in Hong Kong, also has satellite offices in China, Australia, Singapore and working with Channel Partners in Japan, Korea and India and a Joint Venture in China.
Operational HR (40%)
To ensure the company’s HR Policies, procedures and guidelines are compliant with local employment law, that all are clearly defined, up-to-date and communicated consistently to all employees. Also align to global guidelines where appropriate.
To proactively identify people issues and propose appropriate and innovative solutions.
Minimise risk to the business by ensuring any potential exposures are raised and managed effectively and consistently – provide commercially viable advice.
Ensure there is a focus on creating a high performance culture with clear accountability.
To provide support and coaching to managers to enable them to deal with under-performance.
To work with line managers to proactively manage all employee issues such as grievances, disciplinaries and absences.
Manage and oversee all the HR administration.
Supervise and coach junior HR admin support.
Communications: draft and manage regional people announcements; monthly and quarterly news and other activities.
Recruitment & Retention (25%)
Work closely with Global recruitment team on hires and manage the offer process;
Actively assist the business in managing attrition, absence and performance.
Develop the capability of Managers to retain talent and ensure that clear succession and development plans are in place.
To work with line managers to recruit and cost effectively select new and replacement positions, reviewing hiring status on a weekly basis.
Ensure that the succession planning process takes place and assist with the implementation and management of outcomes of the process.
Proactive talent pipeline building through LinkedIn and other network;
Track and handle new visa and renewal applications; work with agencies as appropriate.
Learning and Development
Coach managers to achieve effective management of high performers and underperformers.
To work with line managers to ensure probation and performance reviews are carried out in a timely manner and any actions are followed up.
Organise and support the delivery of the induction programme for new hires and update induction materials on a regular basis.
Manage own continuous development.
Compensation & Benefits
Conduct annual salary benchmark in local markets and make recommendations to the annual salary review for APAC.
Coordinate monthly payroll accurately and work closely with International Payroll coordinator in London and regionally outsourced payroll vendors. Handle all payroll related queries.
Handle leaver tax filing and annual year-end tax documentation with payroll vendors;
Manage and oversee staff benefits e.g. medical insurance, rental reimbursement, general wellbeing programmes. Work with Global team and implement any global initiatives.
Projects
Lead/co-lead regional and global projects on various HR initiatives.
Work closely with the global HR team in EMEA and the Americas.
Support the HRD on global and regional projects.
Provide general management office support as needed and work with Office Manager/EA.
Desired Skills and Experience
Bachelor degree qualified in any discipline but wishes to pursue a career in HR;
At least 6 years’ of solid HR operational experience in a multi-cultural environment and comfortably work in a matrix organisation;
Good working knowledge on Hong Kong and preferably China legislation and practices;
Fluent in English with excellent working knowledge Cantonese/Mandarin is a must;
Experience of working and partnering with a senior management team;
Experience in working in small teams and supervisory skills;
