Manager (In Vivo Operations)

Responsibilities

In charge of in vivo operations that encompass husbandry, laboratory animal experimentation, and necropsy etc.
To build functional capability and capacity for efficient execution of in vivo toxicology, pharmacology and disease model studies at the facility, and ensure scientific and technical rigor in the responsible areas to support company's science and innovation pipelines.
The responsible area also covers ex vivo models and studies.
Lead, motivate and develop the teams to deliver functional execution of in vivo and ex vivo studies in compliance with pertinent guidelines and standards
Plan, direct and manage resource, budget, timelines and risks; update and maintenance of equipment, SOPs / WKIs, in vivo LIMS system, and technical training program; and development and implementation of new techniques in in vivo and ex vivo research area.
Ensure all animal care staff and scientist handling animals are trained in the responsible care and use of laboratory animals in accordance with NACLAR Guidelines and internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), including animal handling and restraint, anaesthesia, euthanasia, etc. and to provide ad-hoc training as requested.
Ensure continual compliance with AAALAC on animal care and use matters and assisting in the preparation of the Animal Care and Use Program for AAALAC submission.
Lead, develop and motivate the in vivo operations team, including objective setting and performance evaluation, providing technical and people leadership, developing learning & training plan to facilitate individual's development, providing regular feedback.
Oversee the overall operation in the in vivo Operations to ensure SOP / WKI / technical guides and training are available and adequate for the technicians to perform their day to day tasks.
Ensure the facility, equipment, systems, workflows and methods are fit for purpose, up to date and efficient.
Oversee the day to day activities conducted in compliance with study plans, WKIs, NACLAR guideline and GLP principle, completed and reported in time and meet expectations of internal stakeholders.
Support facility's implementation of laboratory animal use and care program, and support the Attending Veterinarian in the day to day veterinary care activities.
Keep track of the scientific and technical advancement in the field, support the study directors to assess, adopt and provide expertise for developing and implementing new / innovative techniques, methods, capabilities that will enable / accelerate company's scientific project portfolio execution for scientific substantiation of reduced risk products and exploration of adjacent therapeutic areas.
Represent the functions to coordinate and liaise with cross-functional units and stakeholders (Heads of Department, Study Directors, Sponsors, global counterparts) on the planning, resourcing, execution, data analysis and reporting of in vivo and ex vivo pre-clinical studies. Foster a culture of collaboration and enable frequent technical exchange across the network.
Ensure the day to day operation is smooth and efficient, devise and implement continuous improvement projects to keep up the in vivo operation, animal use and care program to the best practices.
Participate in establishing and maintaining an adequate, current and effective QMS system and assume ownership roles for the business area, systems, equipment and SOPs / WKIs when applicable. Support quality / compliance inspections and audits conducted by both internal and external parties.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline. MSc. or a Ph.D. in Biomedical, Veterinary Science, or related life science discipline is preferred.
At least 5 years’ of relevant professional experience with technical and scientific knowledge with focus on in vivo science, veterinary science and/or toxicology studies, with a CRO, R&D unit within pharmaceutical or healthcare industries, or translational academic research organizations.
In depth scientific knowledge preferably with hands-on experience on in vivo research and/or pre-clinical in vivo toxicology research.
Good understanding on regulatory guidelines such as AVS, AAALAC, OECD GLP and TGs, and USFDA related to animal welfare and in vivo toxicology study preferred.
Experience with managing R&D teams and projects.
Excellent communication and influencing skills.
