Location: Hybrid – 2 days in office (Kogarah on Wednesdays + either Parramatta or Sydney CBD), 3 days WFH

We’re seeking a Senior Network Automation Engineer (Python) to join the Data Centre Network Services – Build & Automation Team within a major financial institution. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on high-impact projects alongside a forward-thinking manager and team.

About the Role

Reporting to the Build & Automation Lead, you will work closely with architecture, engineering, and run teams to deliver high-performance, automated network infrastructure. You'll drive the automation roadmap, streamline change processes, and enable strategic infrastructure transformation through cutting-edge tooling and frameworks.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Develop and implement Python-based network automation solutions
  • Identify and eliminate manual configuration and change processes
  • Support and enhance automation for routing, traffic engineering, and provisioning
  • Work collaboratively across network operations, build, and architecture teams
  • Contribute to strategic infrastructure enablement and automation initiatives
What You’ll Bring
Essential Skills:
  • Extensive Python scripting experience in a networking context
  • 5+ years’ experience in network automation
  • Strong hands-on experience with GitHub or Bitbucket for version control
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
  • Familiarity with automation frameworks such as: PyATS, Ansible, Nornir, Netmiko, or ROBOT Framework
Highly Desirable:
  • Solid knowledge of VxLAN EVPN and overlay technologies
  • Cisco routing and switching expertise (BGP, OSPF, STP, NX-OS, N9K)
  • Experience with orchestration platforms (e.g., NDFC, DCNM)
  • Vendor certifications (CCNP or CCIE)
  • Good understanding of firewalls (Juniper SRX, CheckPoint, Fortinet, NSX)
Desirable:
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and ServiceNow
  • Knowledge of cloud networking (Azure/AWS)
  • Load balancing experience (F5 LTM, GTM, APM, ASM), DNS, and PKI/Crypto
  • Experience with Cisco Nexus/NX-OS environments
