Apply: Healthcare and Medical Malpractice Special Counsel 7-10 PAE

Global brand is seeking a highly experienced Healthcare Special Counsel with a background in defendant medical negligence/malpractice to join a close-knit & collaborative team of 10, working across two specialists in the Melbourne market.
 
Acting for a mix of large insurers, medical practitioners, public & private hospitals & healthcare providers (including allied health professionals), you will have the opportunity to lead a caseload of complex medical malpractice & healthcare work  including:
  • Defence of high value & complex medical negligence matters from inception to settlement/trial.
  • Drafting advice – including providing high-level strategic advice on coverage/indemnity.
  • The defence of complex & high-value claims involving instructing medical experts and external Counsel.
  • Running arbitration, settlement conferences & mediations.
The candidate will possess the following skills:
  • A minimum of 7-10 years’ PAE gained within a top-tier, mid-tier or specialist defendant insurance law firm specifically in the medical negligence & healthcare space.
  • Ability to autonomously manage & run a busy caseload of complex/high-value files;
  • Regular appearance work & use of senior Counsel.
  • Strategic-thinker with a client focused approach.
  • A keen interest in marketing, business development & client events.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills; and
  • Ability to manage and supervise juniors within the team.
